Keywords are probably the 2nd most important thing to know about on websites and blogs for it is they who help bring the traffic to your site. Stop for a second and think about it.
What is it you do when you want to find out something? You type in words or a question in the browser. These words are keywords. Example Why are teddy bears brown? There are several keywords in this question while all are searched for some are more important than others. The important words here are Teddy bears and brown. the main keyword between those 2 are teddy bears.
With the way a search engine works it will bring up lots of teddy bear websites and probably a few sites on bears in the wilderness as well.
So now we know how a search engine sort of works or thinks how can we use this to help our sites? We can add in keywords in our sites to create pages that the search engines will go "HEY Look there this site is talking about what we are looking for", then it will let searchers know its there.
Keywords are also used in advertising, Google ads that you see on a page are based off the keywords you see on the page. Also advertisers pay Google so much per keyword when it is clicked. As you can see keyword are important indeed.
Best places to have keywords
- In your sites address
- In the sites Title or logo as some call it
- In your content
- As tags that are part of a picture (tags are a way of saying this is what this pic is, HTML is what is needed to know how to add that couple great resource for teaching this are One Hour HTML or HTML Tutorial Videos)
Before you go and just start making pages that just say the keyword over and over, search engines are a bit smarter than that and will see that and will just skip your site. They have been programed to look for content. So this is why content is king and more important than keywords.
So you want to put in enough keywords that the browser goes "Cool great content", and doesn't go "ummm this is just spam". Best way to add in the Keywords is once every couple paragraphs but always make sure it makes since becuase that is more important than over or under putting in Keywords.
